Russia took the 8th place in the U18 European championships. In the game for 5-6th place the team lost to Lithuania – 77:84. And Russia lost France in the game for the 7th place – 51:89.
Russia – Lithuania. Turning Point: Russia's role players tied up the game with three minutes remaining, but two botched free throws from Alexander Gavrilov that would have given them the lead enabled Ricardas Verbickas to put Lithuania in front for good with a driving basket plus the foul.

Without medals

Russia lost to Croatia in the quaterfinal of the U18 European championships. Croatia withstood an aggressive second half comeback to upset Russia 82-72 and advance to the semi-finals of the U18 European Championship in Riga, Latvia. Russia came into the quarter-final as the top-seeding out of Ventspils; and Croatia, subsequently the bottom out of Liepaja, but as evidenced by the early action, the seedings meant little to a fired-up Croatian outfit.
Six different scoring contributions paced Croatia in the first quarter as they overcame a slow start by attacking the rim, drawing ten fouls and sending three starters to the bench in early foul trouble, including star Alexander Martynov.

Gennady Shetinin. About Shanghai, Chinese team and his players

On July 24 and 31 in the sport school of Kalininsky district Gennady Shetinin, who was the head coach of Spartak’s youth and junior teams during last season will review the players for our junior team. One week ago Gennady  returned from China where his U17 Russian team took part in the Chinese-Russian games.
Gennady Shetinin: «We were impressed by the organization of the games and Shanghai city. Shanghai is a modern, frankly, hi-tech city, stuffed with skyscrapers, with a population of 24 million people. But there is no feeling of having such a big amount of people in one town. We had a little free time, but when it was, we had excursions, various events, including a trip on the ship, and we were able to make some impression of the city.

From the 1st place to the second round

Russia began its U18 European Championship campaign in successful style with a 68-55 win against Group B opponent Bosnia and Herzegovina in Ventspils on Thursday night.
Aggressively attacking the ring at every opportunity, Russia turned a highly competitive game into a one-way contest in the third quarter by using a 29-8 run to get away from their opponents and open up a lead they would not again surrender.
Bosnia and Herzegovina opened the game with an 11-0 run, but fell behind after relying too heavily on its starting five. A drought in which they missed 13 consecutive field goal attempts allowed Russia to find its rhythm and fly back into the game.
In the second game Russia overcame an 18-point deficit to stun the Czech Republic 71-69 in Group B of the U18 European Championship on Friday night.
Dynamic backcourt duo Alexander Martynov and Viacheslav Fedorchenko lifted Russia from an 18-point third quarter deficit to score a combined 15 points in the final term and deliver the Russians a second-straight come-from-behind victory.
Fedorchenko brought Russia back from the brink with back-to-back threes in the final term before securing an offensive rebound and converting the two subsequent free throws to finally put his side up with under two minutes remaining.
In the third game Russia lost to Greece – 70:74. Russia attempted to return from what would have been a third straight comeback victory to tie the game with under a minute remaining after trailing by double-digits in the third term, but Diamantakos capped off his perfect night with a hook from the right block before a steal by Dimitrios Stamatis on the ensuing inbound pass sealed the victory.
Now in the second round Russia which takes 1st place in the group E, will play with France, Lithuania and Serbia.
Three players of Spartak – Ilya Popov, Ivan Viktorov, Aleksandr Antonikovskii – are in the Russian team.

U20. 4th place

Russia lost to Spain - 63:70 in the bronze medal game at the Sportland U20 European Championship on Sunday.
Russia went without a score during a four-minute stretch bridging the second and third quarters; they only fired three shots during that stretch because they turned the ball over six times, giving Spain all the time in the world to extend their lead from 33-28 to 46-28 and leave them with a mountain to climb the rest of the way.
Russia's turnover count reached 18 in the first 22 minutes of the encounter, rendering useless their good shooting percentage (43.2% to Spain's 37% at that point); Spain could make up for their lack of accuracy by simply having more possessions and taking 17 more shots from the floor. Spain also shot 16 more free throws, as they grabbed 18 offensive rebounds and drew a foul instantly on most occasions.

U20. Kisurin and his team are in the semi-final

A razor-sharp Russia dominated an often lethargic Turkey from start to finish on Friday to claim an 82-70 triumph and a place in the semi-finals of the Sportland U20 European Championship in Tallinn.
Turkey employed a 2-1-2 zone in the second quarter that enabled them to put Russia on pause for a while and gain some confidence on offence to reduce the deficit to 14 points, when first Maksim Sakharov and then Denis Zakharov drilled two triples from the left corner in quick succession to bring Russia's lead back to 19 points, 43-24 and despair the Turks.

U20. In Euro's quaterfinal

Russian U20 team beat Slovenia – 88:69 and lost to Italy – 70:88 and qualified for quarterfinal where it will play with Turkey on July 20. Slovenia led throughout the opening quarter but Russia levelled the scores at 18 at the end of the period and pulled away somewhat in the second frame to hold a 44-37 cushion at the interval.
Slovenia reduced the gap to five points shortly after the start of the third quarter but at that point Russia decided it was time to go on shooting practice and leave their rivals behind.
Russia were so effective in finding the open man on almost every single possession that they had hit 17 of their 25 shots from two-point range (68%) and drilled 11 of 17 attempts from beyond the arc (58%) when their lead reached the 20-point mark, 76-56, with less than seven minutes left to play in the encounter.
Kirill Sokolov played 17 minutes and made 2 assists. Artem Popov played 4 minutes.
In the game Italy – Russia not for the first time in this tournament, the Azzurri turned their size handicap into an advantage and made the most of their mobility and speed.

They employed zone defence to limit Russia's play inside and whenever they had the ball they pushed forward to score in transition or on very fast possessions of only a few seconds.

Italy took their first double-digit advantage already midway through the opening quarter and reached the half-time interval leading 45-35 in comfort.

Their three-point shooting percentage dropped in the third quarter but their two mobile big men continued to execute the game plan to perfection: Rather than posting up, they stretched the floor and then either took the long-range shot option or took the lane and drove to the rim.
Kirill Sokolov played 17 minutes and made 4 rebounds, 2 assistants and steal. Artem Popv played 7 minutes and made 2 rebounds and assist.

Russia delivered a solid performance on Saturday to register a 75-67 success over Bulgaria and claim third place in Group C and a spot in the Second Round at the Sportland U20 European Championship in Tallinn.
The Russians took the lead inside four minutes of play and, although they trailed Bulgaria momentarily midway through the second quarter, they shot the ball close to or over 50 percent from all spots on the floor well into the third quarter to hold the upper hand in the encounter.
