 OJSC NOVATEK is the largest independent producer of gas in Russia second only to OJSC Gazprom, the 4th company in proved gas reserves. By the resource potential NOVATEK is among the ten independent oil and gas companies of the world.
Founded in 1994, the company is engaged in exploration, extraction, and processing of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons and has 4.96 bln barrels of oil equivalent of the proved reserves as of the end of 2008. All deposits and licensed lots of OJSC NOVATEK are located in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of the Russian Federation. Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is the largest area in the world in extraction of natural gas, its share is more than 90 % of the total extraction of natural gas in Russia and approximately 20% of the global extraction of gas.

 		Russian gas extracting company Nortgaz develops Neocomian deposits of the North-Urengoy field in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (license СЛХ 13010 НЭ).
The company supplies all extracted gas to the domestic market of the Russian Federation. Nortgaz is a leader in oil and gas sector by the index of gas extraction per worker, 1.3 mln cm per month.
In the gas fields more than 90% processes are automated. Equipment and technologies used in development of the North-Urengoy field fully comply with the modern environmental requirements, which contributes to preservation of the natural balance of the tundra, way of life, culture, and traditions of the indigenous people of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
