Sport-Weekend | «Spartak»: first game - first win in the season!
Saint-Petersburg basketball players are carrying out their first training camp in the run-up to the season in the famous Pajulahti sports center where hockey players usually train. As usual the first stage lays the basis for General Physical Training. Aleksandar Trifunovich , the team’s main coach, before leaving for the training camp emphasized that in line with physical training “Spartak” was also going to elaborate its tactics. The checkout for the results achieved was a sparring with “Kataja” team from Joensuun. Last season this team took the second place in the championship of Finland. It is a worthy rival especially when you have to play, as basketball players say, "under pressure". This game ended in “Spartak”’s victory - 103:93. After the game the correspondent of “Sport Weekend” contacted Alexey Karvanen, “Spartak” BC sports director, currently staying in Finland. - What was the impression of the newcomers, whose contracts have been just signed? - It was very good. Of course, it is rather hard for18-year old forward Pavel Antipov to play adult basketball, but his potential is enormous. Evgeniy Kolesnikov, a guard who last season played for “VEF”, Riga, was the leader of that team. And he is still quite noticeable in “Spartak”. - Has Levans Fields, a new playmaker, already joined the team? - Yes, he takes part in training camps together with other players. Of course, Levans is still to find a common ground with his partners, though in the game with the Finnish team he showed good skills. - The priority for “Spartak” on the final stage of this transfer campaign is the position of a central player. We’ve heard that the club is interested in Serhiy Lishchuk, a player of Ukrainian national team… - It’s true that we are in search of a central player, but I cannot comment on the information about our interest in Lishchuk. …Meanwhile Ukrainian media consider this transfer a quite probable one. The past seasons Lishchuk played for “Azovmash”, Mariupol, and his partner in the Ukrainian championship was a Belarusian Yegor Meshcheryakov, a current “Spartak” leader, together they were a great power. “Budivelnik ” from Kiev was also interested in Lishchuk but, according to our Ukrainian colleagues, Saint-Petersburg team made a more substantial proposal to the central player’s agent. “Spartak” will come back from Finland to Saint-Petersburg on September, 2 and then will go to Bormio, Italy, where the second stage of preparation for the Russian Championship will be carried out.
