Sport Weekend | Aleksandr TRIFUNOVIC: Fields’ two fouls and Rakovic’s injury

After visiting Moscow region – the first encounter in the season of our red-and-whites with the adversary of long standing and principle – we all want to see the team on home’s court. But the calendar is made up so that it is in the 4th round only that home games will begin – November 9, in the encounter with an outsider of the competition, Krasnodar’s Lokomotiv Kuban. In the short term there will be two most difficult away games with likely contenders to the medals, Lyubertsy’s Triumph (October 25) and Kazan’s UNICS (November 4).
By the first game it is difficult to assess the real situation in a team, all the more so if you are its fan, but even skeptics admitted after the end of yesterday’s battle: just a little was lacking. It seemed that just a couple of minutes would be enough for St. Petersburg’s team, and the victory would have been gained! For during the game the score was both -20 and the tie. In the result, -7 is very good for the beginning.
After the defeat the head coach of St. Petersburg’s team, the Serbian expert Aleksandr TRIFUNOVIC, did not look much disappointed:
- Congratulations to Khimky with the victory! This was the first game of Spartak in the season, it showed that we were properly prepared for the championship. In the first quarter we demonstrated a very confident play. But unluckily, later the team was unable to maintain the level. Alas, in the very beginning of the game the team’s playmaker Levance Fields fouled two times, and Milovan Rakovic left the game due to an injury. Therefore we had to rotate the players heavily, which yielded its result: at once several players scored about the same number of points. I gave an opportunity to play more to Zozulin and Meshcharakou who had spent a considerable part of the pre-season in the games for the national team, and to Ford who had joined the team not long ago. I wanted to see them play...

- Is the injury of Milovan whose foot was damaged in the end of the second quarter serious?
- It is still unknown. The foot muscle may have been torn, but that’s a conjecture. The details will be clear after an examination home, in St. Petersburg clinic where we are flying after the game to. Rakovic says he had a similar injury three and a half years ago.
- Will the tactics of the team change due to a possible long absence of the injured player?
- Let us not haste with the conclusions. First Milovan will undergo a thorough examination, the rest will be clear after the doctors make a detailed diagnosis. Still it is unclear how serious the situation is. If it’s just a bruise he will soon resume playing, but all may be much more complicated.

Head coach of Khimky from Moscow region Sergio Scariolo at the press conference after the game consistently swept aside any questions of journalists about the forthcoming game in the Eurocups his charges are facing:
- We have not thought yet about Real. The game with Spartak was not a preparation for Madrid’s club. We cannot, as great clubs do, treat games of the internal championship as preparatory ones for the Euroleague. Langford is likely to be in the starting lineup for Euroleague games, for in Russia, due to the limit for invited foreign players, he is forced to start a game on the bench.
