Sport Weekend | Eremin, nevertheless, won Spartak...
Yesterday in Lyubertsy Spartak played the second game in the current season of the regular championship. Again it was an away game, again in Moscow region, again in a hard struggle. Alas, as the game with Khimki, the game with Triumph ended in the defeat of the red-and-whites.On the eve of the game in an interview to Sport Weekend former main coach of the Russian national team Sergey Elevich noted in his forecast for the end result of the encounter that the teams are nearly equal in force, and the dominance to Stanislav Eremin’s team can be assured by the home court factor only. Probably, it turned out as had been predicted, though in the third quarter the advantage of the hosting team achieved almost a critical level of 12 points. However, that was the point of toppling equilibrium in the game the result of which for a considerable length had remained questionable. Why the hosts were able at a certain moment to create a comfortable lead is a different issue. A different point is considered now: when evaluating the events of the game one could not help recalling the injury of Milovan Rakovic, a player of the starting five, one of the key figures in both last year’s and this year’s organization of Spartak’s play. Rakovic could not help his team, a cartridge has dropped from the clip, and the mentor of the team from St. Petersburg Aleksandr Trifunovic could not find a worthy replacement to the invited Serbian player. Clear, there is nothing worse than the conjunctive mood in sports: what if… etc. Still, the lack of one of the leaders had a harmful effect on his partners. The beginning of the game was a pell-mell for the Spartak players. The score in the game was open by Nesterov, Triumph’s evil genius in this encounter - 2:0. Zakhar Pashutin in the responding charge misses from behind the bow line, additionally Meshcherakau fouled in the defense. The team from Moscow region collected easy points on foul shots, immediately tackled the ball from Ford, and now Pashutin fouled. The charge was not good as well: Zavoruev and Meshcherakau misses from close quarters, but Miller of the hosting team was precise. It was only on the 4th minute (!) that Pashutin brought first points to Spartak after the foul shots - 6:2. But they didn’t arouse the partners to storm. The red-and-whites could not manage in the limit allotted for a charge, for which the requital immediately followed: Sergeyev supplemented the score of Triumph with two points more. Spartak’s throw from the bow line was also a wide miss – the ball, as if enchanted, would not let the hosts of the court down … Only at the score 13:5 Pashutin as last scored in a long shot, and Zavoruev brought two more in a sally. A combination of Zavoruev, Fields, and Meshcherakau was at last successful – plus two again, then Pashutin’s three-point shot reduced the difference to the minimum. Spartak seemed to have pulled itself together after the failing debut. At the end of the starting quarter Zavoruev distinguished himself with a long shot - 21:18. But what next? Alas, Triumph’s players began to deliver again - 26:18, Aleksandr Trifunovic, Spartak’s mentor, requested a time out. Due to Fields’s efforts, through, the swaggering adversary was almost overtaken - 26:24. It was high time Spartak stepped on the gas, but they again were unable to manage in the charge time - 31:25. Triumph diligently scored points, and it was good that Meshcherakau responded from behind the bow line in time - 33:29. At -5, Trifunovic took a time out again, and soon his lead was followed by Stanislav Eremin. Having the apparent advantage, his team was unable to break away in the score: Spartak, though not everything was successful in the game, was battling hard. 35:32 – before the big break. In the second half of the game three-point shots were exchanged. The shots of the team from Lyubertsy were responded by Meshcherakau and Pashutin. In several minutes Zakhar equaled the score with his foul shots for the first time in the game, and Yegor was precise on another one - 43:44. Spartak took the lead, but was unable to develop the success. Zavoruev missed from under the ring, and the adversary scored with a foul and realized the foul shot. A time out followed, but the team from St. Petersburg was unable to drastically adjust their performance - 56:47. And after the difference in the score became two-digit, Triumph would not allow the guests to be close on their heels … The game is lost, but there is time for mistakes corrected. A year ago Spartak also began the season with two defeats, and ended it in the top four... After the game Spartak’s main coach Aleksandr Trifunovic noted that the outcome of the game had been predetermined by the great ambition of the adversary to win: - We began the game without spirit, but it was after the big break already that we began to act more aggressively and even took the lead. But at the moment we lacked concentration not to give Triumph an opportunity to resume leadership in the game. The team from Lyubertsy played a very specific basketball today. Even despite the absence of Shabalkin, the “big ones” performed excellently - Nesterov, Miller, they demonstrated excellent speeds, successful shots, aggressive manner on the court. On the whole, Triumph played very accurately both in defense and charge. Unluckily, we are still unable to achieve that level of playing which we should demonstrate taking account of our goals in this season. We need time, additionally, it is rather difficult to begin a championship with three away games. Triumph’s mentor Stanislav Eremin admitted that the break in the game was caused by the emotional lift of the leaders of the team from Moscow region: - Both teams sustained considerable losses in the front line before the game. Possibly, this accounted for the irritable beginning of the game, though our starting five performed at a good level in the charge. But then Spartak managed to equal the game, and I will say that for a greater part of the game the play was equal, despite our leading the score all this time. A critical moment was, in my opinion, when Rush and Likhodey got worked up and made the team follow their lead, Likhodey’s beautiful dunk shot uplifted our powers, emotions, we broke away by 10 points. The end of the game was just brought home by the teams. A. Komendantsky.
