Worlds. It was difficult but our team won

In the third match of group stage in Worlds Russian team could win the game with Cote d'Ivoire - 72:66. The representatives of this team made many problems to Blatt's players. Though we can say that our team made problems itself. Russia had 12, 13 and 14-points advantage during the game but our team could loose such advantage. Even the score became equal in the third quater. Finally Russia could win 6 points. And result now is the most important.
Anton Ponkrashov was in the starting five. He took 4 points, made 3 assists and 2 rebounds for 20 minutes. Evgeny Kolesnikov played 10 minutes and made 3 rebounds and block shot.
A day earlier Slovenia had their third game in Worlds. The team of Miha Zupan beat Croatia - 91:84. Our player took 8 points and made 4 rebounds for 16 minutes.

We base in Alps

On Sunday, August 29, Spartak went to the second training camp in Bormio which will be for 2 weeks.
The name of small comune which population is less than 5 thousands is in the list of European ski resorts. And it's clear. Bormio is situated near Alps. But the place on the boarder of Italy and Switzerland is actively visited not only by skiers.
Basketball players like representatives of some other sports prepare for a season in mountains. It's famous for a long time that highlands affect good for health of sportsmen. In autumn Bormio is the training base for some basketball teams from different countries. This fact permits coaches to train playing combinations in game conditions - during friendly games. The choice of competitors is big. Spartak also will have 8 games during 2 weeks. We give their schedule later.

Alexey Karvanen: Spartak spirit will be revealed in team play
BC “Spartak” sports director gave an exclusive interview to the “Sport Weekend” reporter in which he talked about the team’s latest acquisitions and season preparation plans.
Following Russian basketball players Anton Ponkrashov and Vladimir Dyachok, Stephane Lasme, a Gabon citizen who graduated from an American university and played the last two seasons for the European League teams – “Partizan” Belgrade and “Maccabi” Tel Aviv - has signed contract with “Spartak”. The question about this player was the one with which we started our interview.

Alexey Karvanen: We’ll try not to mess up the “European cup” task
“Spartak” sports director talks about the drawing for the European cup season and the club's newcomers. On Thursday Barcelona witnessed the drawing for the European cup which for Saint-Petersburg “Spartak” starts with qualification round. Our team was among the seeds but the rival drawn for us is the strongest team in the second group – PAOK from Thessaloniki that took the 5th place in the regular championship of Greece. The first game will take place on September 29th at PAOK’s ground, the return game – on October 6th at “Yubileyny”.
