In the third match of group stage in Worlds Russian team could win the game with  Cote d'Ivoire - 72:66. The representatives of this team made many problems to Blatt's players. Though we can say that our team made problems itself. Russia had 12, 13 and 14-points advantage during the game but our team could loose such advantage. Even the score became equal in the third quater. Finally Russia could win 6 points. And result now is the most important.
Anton Ponkrashov was in the starting five. He took 4 points, made 3 assists and 2 rebounds for 20 minutes. Evgeny Kolesnikov played 10 minutes and made 3 rebounds and block shot.
A day earlier Slovenia had their third game in Worlds. The team of Miha Zupan beat Croatia - 91:84. Our player took 8 points and made 4 rebounds for 16 minutes.

On Sunday, August 29, Spartak went to the second training camp in Bormio which will be for 2 weeks.
The name of small comune which population is less than 5 thousands is in the list of European ski resorts. And it's clear. Bormio is situated near Alps. But the place on the boarder of Italy and Switzerland is actively visited not only by skiers.
Basketball players like representatives of some other sports prepare for a season in mountains. It's famous for a long time that highlands affect good for health of sportsmen.  In autumn Bormio is the training base for some basketball teams from different countries. This fact permits coaches to train playing combinations in game conditions - during friendly games. The choice of competitors is big. Spartak also will have 8 games during 2 weeks. We give their schedule later.

30.08.2010 01:12:00 | Worlds. Second day. Not victorious

On Sunday second matches of the group round were held in the Worlds in Turkey. Russian team played with hosts who won - 65:56. The second quater where Turkey team had 10-points advantage defined the result. Anton Ponkrashov took 2 points, made 5 rebounds and 3 assists for 29 minutes on the ground. Evgeny Kolesnikov played 2 minutes.
One more Spartak's player - Miha Zupan - plays for Slovenian team in group B.

The world championships started in Turkey. Russian team won it's first game - with Puerto Rico - 75:66. We have as we can say double pleasure from the fact that Spartak's player Anton Ponkrashov became the best player of the game. Anton took 10 points from free throws line. His 3-points shoots were not successful but he did successfully 11 assists.
 "We have new team as National team every year. It's very hard to compare feelings with last performances. The feelings are different all the time. Today I am happy. Not only because of my game but for the team first of all.

The management of BC Spartak took decision to rescind the contract with American guard Levance Fields who didn't got a medical examination before upcoming season. Levance came to the team one year ago when he signed the contract 2+1. He became one of Spartak's leaders during last season.
"Certainly we regret very much that we have to rescind the contract with Levance. We say him thanks for season that he was in Spartak. He showed for this time that he could be a leader of the team, he did many for the team and was very courageous during play off when he played with injury, also he was one of the most resultative players in the team.
It is very hard to loose such player. We wish Levance happiness and say thanks one more time", - Spartak's sport director Alexey Karvanen said.

Three players of Spartak will go to World championship in Turkey which starts on this Saturday. If Anton Ponkrashov is not newcomer in National team but another guard of our team - Evgeny Kolesnikov - is in Russian team for the first time. Both Spartak's players are among 12 players of Blatt's team.

The first training camp of Spartak in Vierumaki, Finland comes to the end. Today our team played a friendly game with Namika Lahti. Our competitor won - 64:62 (10:15, 21:17, 14:17, 19:13). The detailed statistics wasn't held but the result is not very important.
"The match was training we can say. Nobody had the aim to win it. The competitor shooted two free throws in the end when we had equal score. But I say once again that the result is not the most important in this game. Players are tired now, they are on effort. We saw how they are on the ground and now we'll work then", - Spartak's sport director Alexey Karvanen says.

The head coach of Spartak Zvi Sherf said about preseason team preparation which our team started this week.
“We have very intensive and good schedule of preparing for the season. For me season will start in September 29 with the game with PAOK. We have to be ready to this date as so good as we can. We have a lot of problems now. Some our players are in National teams. Though we congratulate every player who is in National team – Russian, Slovenian and Bosnian. If players are there they play good. Even though we suffer from their absence.

The guard of Spartak Alexey Zozulin left Russian National team. We remind that Alexey had individual trainings in Novogorsk during last month and he had medical treatment for his knee in Moscow.
"We told yesterday with David Blatt and decided that I wouldn't continue preparation for Worlds. The head coach said regrets about my health, he hoped to see me in team in Turkey but he said that he didn't want to have a risk about my health. Certainly I am sad about this situation. I hoped to the final moment and did everything to help team in Worlds. But unfortunately I need treatment now", - Alexey said.

Spartak had 3 trainings in St.Petersburg on Monday and Tuesday and then went to Finland. The team will train in Finland, in Vierumaki during a week. There different clubs and national teams from different sports have their training camps. And it's clear why.  The sport institute of Finland - the official learning center of Finnish Olimpic committee is in Vierumaki. Sportsmen can use the complex with grounds for basketball, volleyball, football, tennis courts, fitness center, swimming pool, sauna, hotel complex.

Alexander Yanushevich will be athletic coach of the main Spartak' team in new season. Earlier Alexander worked in Dinamo (Saint-Petersburg) and women Spartak (Saint-Petersburg). Also he participated in the preparation of Russian National team for Worlds in this season.

Now it's not so hot in St.Petersburg as it was during last month. It was raining and there were thunderstorms and storms in the city earlier. It was cloudy on Sunday but sun is shining on Monday. The weather is right. Not hot, not stuffy and not dull. Well, it's very good time now for starting work. Today Spartak had first meeting.

James White who played in Spartak during last season now will play for Italian team Dinamo Sassari. The contract of James with our team finished in June and now he will be in Sardinian club. We say to James thanks for a play which he showed and we wish him success!

BC Spartak and player Vasily Zavoruev have reached mutual agreement about cancellation the player's contract with our club. The contract was signed in October, 2009 and it was for 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons. We wish Vasily success in his career and say him big thanks for two seasons that he played in Spartak.

The center Alexander Dedushkin who played for Spartak during last 2 seasons became the player of Krasnye krylia. The contract of Alexander with Spartak finished in the end of 2009-2010 season and Dedushkin went to Samara.
We say thanks to Sasha for the time which he was in Spartak, for benefit, commitment and his desire to fight and do his best all the time that he demonstrated in every game. We wish Alexander good luck and success.

The management of BC Spartak signed the contract with American guard Henry Domercant who represents Bosnia and Herzegovina internationally.
The agreement is for 3 years. Domercant played in Siena Montepaschi during last 2 seasons. Russian fans know him good by his games for Dinamo Moscow.

The player of our team Miha Zupan as a member of National Slovenian team won Stankovic Cup.
The tournament is held annualy since 2005 in China by the International Basketball Federation. This time also National teams from Iraq, China and Australia took part in it. Slovenia beat Australia in the last game on Sunday and won the Cup-2010.
