“Spartak” prevailed over “Red Wings” in the third match of the semifinal series for the 5th place of the BEKO PBL Russian Championship — 78-75. On May, 17 our team is playing the first match of the final series for the 5th place against UNICS in Saint-Petersburg.
Two games were not enough to determine the strongest between “Spartak” of Saint-Petersburg and “Red Wings” of Samara. So the third decisive encounter happened on the court of the “Yubileiny” Sports Complex.

Today “Spartak” had the second semifinal match for the 5th place in the BEKO PBL Russian Championship in Samara and was defeated - 67-75. On May, 7 the decisive third match of the series will be held in Saint-Petersburg.
The spectators did not treat the action in MTL Arena to their presence in large numbers. The spectator forces of Samara were chiefly assigned to football: “Krylia Sovetov” were celebrating the 70 year anniversary of the club with a match against “Tom”, and the city authorities strongly encouraged everyone to come and support their football players.

The players of Saint-Petersburg “Spartak” met with Samara “Red Wings” in the first match of the semifinal series for the 5th — 8th places of the BEKO PBL Russian Championship and won 73-71. The game was even during the whole match. That lead to 66-66 score with 2.17 to the end. Was there going to be an overtime? Zozulin responded to the Hayes' “two” with a field goal and a foul shot, making a three-point play.

Today “Spartak” had a match in Krasnoyarsk with “Enisey”, the match being the last one in the regular Russian Championship of BEKO Professional Basketball League for our team. The result is a victory - 84-63. All the team players appeared on the court this evening. “After a streak of defeats it was important for us to show a good game and win,” Jurij Zdovc said after the match. That was accomplished.

On the 60th anniversary of the head coach of Lokomotiv-Kuban his team won the second match of the Russian quarterfinal duel against Spartak - 69:60.
The second match of the series Locomotiv started very confidently – 5:0 after effective attacks by Jeremiah Massey (from three-point arc) and Maxim Grigoriyev. But after failure in the European Cup Final Four and the championship of Russia the hosts needed to rehabilitate before their native fans. And the jerk 13:0 began to change the situation on the court.

 

In the first quarterfinal match of the series Lokomotiv-Kuban in Krasnodar confidently beat another Russian club - Spartak - 71:57.
Teams from Krasnodar and St. Petersburg have already played with each other again this season. And today both teams met in 1/4 playoffs of VTB United League.
The intrigue in the game was only in one quarter. One minute before the end of the starting period the difference in scoring was only «+4» in favor of Krasnodar but the last ball in the first half scored Spartak thanks to Patrick Beverley 7.10 minutes before the big break! The remaining segment Lokomotiv won with a crushing score 17:2 (Ali Traore scored 10 points).

 

Euroleague president Jordi Bertomeu, having been staying in Saint-Petersburg with a private visit, had a trip to the arena under construction on Krestovskiy island that is going to be the base of “Spartak” and the place of its home matches from the next season onwards. During the tour of the construction site Mr. Bertomeu had a conversation with the club representatives about the arena that is going to be finished in the immediate future, as well as the prospects of the “Spartak” performance in the Euroleague.

SIBUR Holding, ZAO is officially registered in Saint-Petersburg, while on the territory of the Ust-Luga commercial seaport the company is building liquified petroleum gas and light oil transshipment complex that is the largest in the country and the only one in the North-West region.

In the semifinal of Eurocup Spartak lost to Khimki in the outstanding match - 73:77.
Spartak will try to bounce back right away in the third place game against Lietuvos Rytas. Patrick Beverley and Yotam Halperin led Spartak with 15 points apiece. Valery Likhodey added 12 while Vladimir Dragicevic got 10 for Spartak.

Hello everybody! Finally we have reached the Eurocup Finals. Things have been good for us at Spartak St. Petersburg recently. Our coach, Jure Zdovc, was named as the Eurocup Coach of the Year and Patrick Beverley is the 2011-12 Eurocup MVP. But first, let’s look at what got us here.

Spartak received the Moscow CSKA on the home court as a contender in the BEKO Professional Basketball League Russian Championship and lost in a fierce struggle - 78-88. We thank everybody who came to support the team this evening. The spectators at the game numbered 6500.
The Greek Center Lukas Mavrokefalidis got into the match lineup, but due to stomach flu Janis Strelnieks could not come to the aid of his team. Patrick Beverley played while infected, as well as Vasiliy Zavoruev. After the match Jure confessed that finding enough combat-ready players posed a challenge to the coaching staff before the game. Siskauskas, the ex-captain of Spartak Anton Ponkrashov and Dmitriy Sokolov remained in Moscow.

 

Euroleague Basketball is pleased to announce that Patrick Beverley of Spartak St. Petersburg has been selected as the Eurocup MVP for the 2011-12 season. Beverley, 23, has dominated throughout the season to lead his team to the best record and a spot in the Eurocup Finals.

Jurij Zdovc selected the following group of five to start the match: Beverley, Strelnieks, Keiru, Likhodey and Kashirov. The first points on the host side were gained from beyond the arc by Valeriy Likhodey. But everything considered, as in many other encounters, the opening of the game did “Spartak” no credit. And that - despite their leading, and only Brion Rush scoring in the guest lineup.

The road to the 2012 Eurocup Finals featured 152 games played and before a new champion of the competition is crowned, Euroleague Basketball has chosen 10 deserving stars to make up the All-Eurocup first and second teams for the 2011-12 season. Headlining the second team is Yotam Halperin, who led Spartak St. Petersburg to the Eurocup Finals.

Euroleague Basketball is honored to announce that Jure Zdovc of Spartak St. Petersburg, who took his team all the way from the qualifying round to the finals, has been chosen as the 2011-12 Eurocup Coach of the Year. In his first season on Spartak's bench, Zdovc has led the club to the Eurocup Finals in Khimki, Russia on April 14 and 15, with the chance to lift its first continental trophy since 1975.

“Spartak” beat UNICS in a match of the BEKO Professional Basketball League Russian Championship - 89-65.

Legally the BEKO PBL Russian Championship playoffs do not start for more than a month and a half, but for “Spartak” and UNICS the playoffs effectively began today - any loss would have virtually guaranteed a premature vacation. It should be noted that quite a sizable audience gathered in the “Yubileyniy” Sports Complex to support their favorites. But the guests were not left without encouragement - about two dozens of the Kazan club fans, armed with a drum, created a proper acoustic support for their team.

Spartak St. Petersburg reached the Eurocup Finals by sweeping its two-way series against CEZ Nymburk and one of its players registered the best individual performance of all winning squads in Game 2 of the Quarterfinals. Yotam Halperin helped Spartak to beat Nymburk 86-71 with 19 points on 3-of-4 three-pointers and 6-of-6 free throws. He added 3 rebounds, 7 assists, a steal, a block and 6 fouls drawn for a 31 performance index rating.

Spartak St. Petersburg is the first team in the Eurocup Finals! The Russian team defeated CEZ Nymburk also in Game 2 of the quarterfinal series by 86-71 and punched its ticket for the final event of the season, to take place in Khimki, Russia, on April 14 and 15. Spartak had also won Game 1 in the Czech Republic by 64-68. The rival of Spartak in semis will be BC Khimki.
